ARTIST JOE FORKAN FEATURED IN COMMUNITY FOCUS PROGRAM AT JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT
SANTA ANA, Calif. - A collection of paintings by artist Joe Forkan will be featured at John Wayne Airport (JWA) as part of the Community Focus Program now through April 22, 2010. "In this body of work I am primarily interested in light, color and perception, trying to engage and communicate the experience of seeing." says Forkan. "I try to understand and paint as clearly as I can, not so much what I am seeing, but how I am seeing it."
Big Sur Noon Looking North by Joe Forkan
Forkan grew up in Arizona, where the environment fueled his interest in color and landscape. He received his BFA in Studio Art from the University of Arizona in 1989, and his MFA in Painting from the University of Delaware in 2002, and moved to California to take a position at California State University Fullerton the same year. Currently an Associate Professor of Art at California State Fullerton, Joe Forkan lives and works in Santa Ana.
Forkan’s paintings will be displayed in the departure (upper) level near the security screening areas and on the arrival (lower) level near baggage carousels 1 and 4. "During this period, the artists produced American Scene or Regionalist artworks beautifully depicting a ‘sense of place’ featuring local people in city living environments, factories, transportation venues including boats, trains and streetcars," said Karin Schnell, exhibition guest curator.
Northern California artists’ works are exhibited in Terminal A across from Gates 12-14 and Southern California artists are in Terminal B across from Gates 1-3.
