John Wayne Airport, The Gateway to Orange County

John Wayne Airport, Orange County logo

The mission of John Wayne Airport is to plan, direct, and provide high quality aviation services and facilities for Orange County in a safe, secure, and efficient manner.

Travel Tips: Plan Smart

The Airport has begun construction on its Improvement Program. Use caution when traveling the Airport roadways and plan to arrive two (2) hours prior to your flight departure time to find parking, go through security screening and get to your gate on time.

Reduce your wait time by getting your boarding pass on-line (airlines) or by using the airline check-in kiosks. If you're traveling with American Airlines, try the new Paperless Boarding Pass. Also, learn which screening lane to use, the Expert, Casual or Family/ Medical Liquids Lane. Read more about the Self Select Lanes...

Travel Tips: Pack Smart

“1+1 Rule"

You are allowed one carry-on bag and one personal item – such as a purse, briefcase, laptop computer or diaper bag – through security screening and onto the aircraft. The approximate allowable maximum size for carry-on bags is 22” x 14” x 9”. Please verify the size and weight restrictions for baggage with your airline.

"3-1-1 for Carry-Ons"

Travel-sized toiletries in 8" x 7.5" zip-top bag

3 ounces or less size containers of liquid or gel

1 quart-size, clear plastic, zip-top bag holding 3 ounces or less containers

1 bag per traveler placed in the security bin

Declare larger liquids. Medications, baby formula and food, and breast milk are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding three ounces and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Passengers are requested to use the Family/Medical Liquids Lane and declare these items for inspection at the checkpoint.

Permitted and Prohibited Items

Remember – no prohibited items in your carry-on luggage and leave gifts unwrapped since they are subject to search. Visit the TSA Web site for specific information on Permitted and Prohibited, and Food and Gift Items.

Powders in Carry-on Lugagge: TSA recently announced that, while permitted in your carry-on luggage, powders may now require additional screening. The vast majority of commonly carried powders, like most medication, infant formula and makeup, are unlikely to need further screening. Find out more about this requirement on TSA's Web site...

Travel Tips: Parking Notice

Due to travel patterns unique to this Airport, demand for parking is particularly high and terminal parking structures often are filled on Wednesdays. Be prepared and call ahead for a parking status at (949) 252-5200 - dial “0” after the initial recording to speak to an Airport Operator - or consider alternative methods of transportation to and from the Airport, including shuttle and taxi services, public transportation, friends or family.
